“Go South”: get to know some of the artists from our upcoming show!

Hey all,

As you know, our January opening, “Go South”, is coming up very soon, so I thought perhaps you’d like to learn a little more about some of the artists whose work will be in the show!

Rich Gere

“Daybreak”, 2011

Rich Gere, who currently lives and works in Atlanta, has participated in countless exhibitions (not only in the States, but also in Mexico, Europe, and Asia) and has taught in Georgia and at Tusculum College, Walters State and Virginia Intermont. He earned his BFA from the University of Massachusetts (Amhurst), and his MFA from the University of Tennessee (Knoxville).

Kevin Byrd

Giclee prints, part of “Transpose” series, created for Burnaway

Kevin Byrd is a native Charlestonian (as in, from Charleston, South Carolina) who now lives and works here in Atlanta. He is the art director for Armchair Media , and is a multi-talented artist with experience in  mediums including graphic design, photography, film and interactive design. He went to school for architecture, and has since successfully branched out into a variety of artistic and business endeavors.

Terri Dilling

“Visual Chemistry”, intaglio

Terri Dilling lives and works in Atlanta, and is the president of the Atlanta Printmakers Studio. She received her BA from Indiana University, and her BFA in Drawing, Painting and Printmaking from Georgia State University. Some of her sources of inspiration include organic plant and flower forms and microscopic cells.

-To see more of these artists’ work (and work from our other fabulous printmakers) you’ll have to stop by the opening on the 7th, so be there or be square!

see you there,

Start shopping, early birds!

Hey weekend babies,

Since I’ve been on an early Christmas-gift-buying spree, I thought I’d share some of my favorite gift ideas from Young Blood. Personally, this is the first year I’ve actually gotten a jumpstart on gift shopping, and I’m feeling less stressed just thinking about what I’ve knocked out thus far. Below are some of my favorite (and affordable!) gifts and designers.

Meg Leigh jewelry. It’s pretty, feminine, and her prices are fantastic.

Brass leaf earrings by Meg Leigh.

Sterling sparrow necklace, also by Meg Leigh.

A new vendor I’m really excited about, Patti Sandberg Ceramics! I ADORE everything we have of hers.  Patti hails from Portland, Maine, and it was all I could do not to buy everything we have of hers for my own kitchen.

Milton & Margie’s soy wax candles. Their scents are amazing, and their candles are all held in recycled containers like mason jars and little lanterns. We have fall-ey scents like “Pumpkin Pie”, “Pine”, and “Warm Apple Pie”, and classics like “Clean Laundry”, “Lavender” and “Mulberry”. psst! Milton and Margie are artist Jess’s  kitties, and the shop is their namesake. Love it.

And–be still my heart–prints by London illustrator, Julia Pott. To be honest, I don’t think anyone will be receiving one of these from me, unless it’s my man friend because I could still see it as his place, because I couldn’t bear to part with one.

I’m in love.

Now, as my mother would say, “go forth…” and have a great weekend!

Last Vacation.

This is my last little vacation of the summer ( I know, I know it’s september) but, here in the south our summers last a little longer. And since I’m going to the beach for a wedding it feels pretty summery still. I’m excited to go on our little road trip with my friends and hopefully we won’t miss the ferry! Here’s a little coastal inspiration from YB to keep me going for the next few days…

Ahoy!

FUN times!

Yesterday was “Bark in the Park” and Jen and I got to bring our little puppies to the Braves game! It was tons of fun! We’ve got tons of fun comin our way too…

This Saturday don’t forget it’s So Fine Equine. A silent auction held at YB to benefit
HRRRF ( a local horse rescue)

Then the following weekend Sanithna Phansavanh‘s
opening “Knock on Wood”. Check out his new video on his blog of his progress. And look out for news of the scavenger hunt of his art the day before the opening. Stay tuned…

Summer Haze

Thanks everybody for coming to our opening last night -it was a great turn out! And double thanks to King of Pops and The Highland Ballroom Lounge for all the extra treats and entertainment.

I’ve had to think a lot about weddings lately because I have 3 coming up for some of my good friends. I don’t think I can even count the amount of weddings I’ve been to in the last 10 so years and it’s always interesting to see how folks plan them out, either fancy destination weddings or eloping with party in your home town later or just in your own backyard.
