Milton and Margies Soy Wax Candles.

Neither Milton nor Margie actually make “Milton and Margies” soy wax candles. These one of a kind wonders are hand poured by Jessica Duff, who named her company after her two kitties.

“Milton and Margies” candles not only make perfect gifts, they are super eco-chic! Soy wax candles are special because they are made with soy beans which is a renewable source unlike paraffin and they burn with no soot, so your walls, ceilings and furniture will not turn color. Hurrah!
Each candle is an original, having been hand poured into a recycled container. Jessica uses mason jars, tin cans, vintage punch cups and anything else she can find in her kitchen, at thrift stores and garage sales. The only thing that is duplicated throughout the line is the the consistency of the label matching the fragrance the candle omits perfectly.
“Fuzzy navel” (peach) is a favorite in Young Blood of course; we’re southern after all, but “Wild Mountain Honey” and “Cedar Campfire” are amongst the other scents sent to put a smile on your face.

Check out the line of “MIlton and Margies soy wax candles” in store now.

A word from the Atlanta Roller Girls / Vendor Tables

The ladies are looking for vendors; this is a fun and inexpensive way to market your goods PLUS they get huge turn outs!
Hello Everyone!
It’s Dottie Darko with the Atlanta Rollergirls.  It is now only a little over two weeks until the 2011 season of derby begins in Atlanta.  There are 8 home bout days this year starting February 26th.  I hope you all are planning to spend our bout days with us again this year as vendors.  I will be emailing you around two weeks before the bouts and the week before.  The tables are $25 which we supply along with two chairs.  I want to get a pretty good estimate of who will be vending by the Wednesday before the bout.  That way we can get your names on the list and get the tables set up the day of.  Setup this year for vendors will be from 3-4pm on bout day.  The doors open at 4, the first game is at 5pm and the second game is at 7:30pm with a halftime show in the courtyard in between games.  We are so excited about this season and hope to see you there!  thanks, Dottie
the dates for this season home games are:
February 26th
March 19th
April 16th
May 21st
June 18th
July 16th

p.s.  if you are looking for some more immediate rollergirl fun come out to bellissima tonight at 7:30pm for our debutante brawl where we introduce our 2011 rookies!

Still #1 on Yelp!?

Not sure why but we are still listed as the number one shopping destination on Yelp Atlanta’s home page.  I think it has something to do with how many positive reviews we have?  Sometimes I read them when I need a motivating shot in the butt.  The things people say seriously make me wanna tear up at times.  It reminds me that, wow – we are a real, live business now and not only do people actually shop here but they like us and come back!  Life can be so stressful when it comes to work but when I see these reviews it helps me realize that I’ve got it pretty good career-wise. Things could always be better but I’m sure I’d feel that way not matter where I worked and how much $ I was making.  I’m centered in a beautiful neighborhood commercial district, surrounded by tons of friends and supporters in a city that I truly love.  When I really think about it, my life is even better than I imagined it would be as a kid.  I have so many of the things I wanted and more.

Love you guys,

Mags

Sneak Peak of Next Month’s Show: Sanithna Phansavanh!

I have an especially good feeling about this next show. Sanithna’s work is based on superstitions around the world, something we Southerners have definitely contributed to.

In Sanithna’s own words, from his blog, The Prince and the Thief:

Knock on Wood” explores superstitions, charms, and talismans. Drawings and paintings, inspired by beliefs from around the world, catalogue various actions, thoughts, and objects that attempt to relieve fear and uncertainty.

My brothers-in-arms, Modern Skirts, will be giving a very special and free performance. Trust me, they are homegrown, bona fide rockstars. Ask them about opening for R.E.M.

The soundtrack for the gallery viewing will be provided by my friend Alex Goose. Some of you folks may know him better as the guy who created The Blueprint 3 Outtakes, music that Jay-Z (unbelieveably) did not use on his last album.

A special project with my long-time buddy Tim Haught and his StreetLocal folks, one of Atlanta’s highly respected brands, will be released that night. I dare you to find something new and grand that they don’t already know about.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for some goodness from my-sister-from-a-different-mister, Dehanza Rogers, aka her celluloid self. When she’s not being Documentary Filmmaker Champ, you can find her in UCLA’s über-elite MFA Film Program.

Love and black cats ’til next Wed,
Maggie

Shoutout!

Thanks Creative Loafing for the little shoutout and review of the Ponce Art Crew’s (yours truly, Beep Beep, and Kibbee!) openings this past weekend! We’re always a fan of sweet words.. hehe.. and it’s so awesome that we can share the vicinity of our digs with other amazing spaces and people!
If you haven’t read it yet.. Check it out here! Ming was such a multi-talented, awesome dude at the opening.. he is totally deserving of the praise he got!

But seriously, if you haven’t seen Born/Michi’s show at Beep Beep and Winsome Want at Kibbee.. Better hurry and get on it!!

AND on the topic of favorite spaces.. We hope to see everyone at Mint Gallery‘s Fundraiser. It’s super important to support your local business and keep Atlanta’s culture flowin..and Mint is non-profit, remember!

ps.. this is also a part of the Ponce Crew.. Sorry I didn’t mention that earlier :)

Doin’ thangs!

A shorty but sweetie from Maggie who is pooped as a mug after a long day and is looking down the barrel of inventory tomorrow! Hard work, good sleep – right?

Tonight we set up shop at Lady Rogue Biz Network‘s monthly hootenanny. It was the first time they organized an underground market. Those ladies sure are growing on me, along with the other members. All I have to say right now is that I love Atlanta and I love our growing presence of independent business. CHURCH! PREACH! Amen.
