Check out BURNAWAY’s Annual Fundraiser this Saturday after Young Blood’s newsest show “The Lotus Eaters.”

Want to support some more local art initiatives after checking out our latest show The Lotus Eaters this upcoming Saturday? Following the fun and friends at Young Blood, head on over to another exciting event with BURNAWAY, a non-profit online magazine that encourages dialogue about art with their headquarters in Atlanta. This Saturday they’re holding their annual fundraiser Ruins & Rebirth, “A wicked party for a worthy cause: supporting the online magazine that fuels the movement for local art!” This year’s theme encourages artists to focus on the cycles of change throughout Atlanta’s rich history. Plenty of artists will be showing their interpretations of this idea through art, theatrical recitations, music and dance performances and other readings. The event will be held at The Granite Room at 211 Peters St from 7pm-11pm. Hope to see you there for an exciting night of artistic celebration!

Sea Change

We are very excited about our July show, “Sea Change”. The opening reception is July 7th,  7-10 PM! We hope to you see you there!

Here’s a little about the artists:

Kent Knowles was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on March 5, 1975. The son of an Air Force Chaplain, he grew up traveling around the world, exhibiting an interest in art at an early age. While attending high school in Europe, Kent was introduced to the large-scale figurative paintings of the Old Masters. His current work reflects an interest in the technical aspects of traditional painting as well as the expressive qualities of figure, pattern and design in contemporary art. In addition to working as a visual artist, Kent is a screenwriter, filmmaker and author of the children’s book Lucius and the Storm (Red Cygnet Press, 2007).

Sarah McCallum studied studio art at the University of Georgia where she earned her BFA in painting in 2003. After completing her masters in art education, she taught elementary school art in Gwinnett County before following her dreams of becoming a full time studio artist. She lives and works in Athens, GA with her husband and son. Her large-scale paintings and smaller drawings often feature frenetic swarms of unusual sea creatures, anthropomorphic hairstyles, and fantastical flora and fauna. The horror vacui of these densely packed compositions contain a multitude of certain dynamics and interactions between a host of bizarre characters. Amidst the flotsam and jetsam of bright and sometimes garish colors, universal archetypes and symbols are revealed.

Missed a few! More things to do!

Well, looks like there was a few things I missed the other day. Big things.  Silly me. Teehee.

Hello MAST!

Happy Friday!

The Mr. and I just returned from a whirlwind road trip around the Southwest! It was exciting not knowing where I’d be staying until minutes before arriving some days and rejuvenating to drive down open highway through deserted back roads surrounded by mesas and deserts (even if down one such lonely highway we forgot to bring water–oops!).

Sometime during the middle-ish of the trip we floated through Tucson and ran across a little reminder of home! In a cool warehouse district (think-Castleberry Hill in the middle of the desert)      I came across MAST.

Combining found vintage items and handmade jewelry, furniture, clothing, etc.  artist owners Sofie, Tasha, and Mellow have created a space that is eclectic yet cohesive, with a strong point of view. And what a lovely view it is! Check out some of my favorite things!

Love the burlap covered furniture and handmade light pendants!

I need this horse lamp in my life! And look at that mirror!!!

Mast is a must-visit if you find yourself in Tucson!

And definitely go with enough time to have brunch at Tooley’s Cafe next door!

The mexican wedding cookies are worth it on their own!

XO,

Rebecca
