Rubyassata Handmade Leather Beauties!

Hey all!

Today I am featuring one of our newest designers: Rubyassata!

(Friends and leather magicians forever! Alisha and Courtney)

Rubyassata products are handmade and based out of Wilmington, North Carolina by Alisha Lee Payne and managed by Courtney James Bridgers. Alisha designs and sews and Courtney takes care of the business side of things, like a boss.

Every product  incorporates unique durable leathers with found vintage linings. Their company is inspired by their love for vintage and their resourceful attitude towards  misfit fashions that fall victim to being thrown out by their owners.
Devastatingly heartbreaking, we know.  But don’t fret! Dry those crocodile tears, because these girls find the misplaced fabrics and give them new purpose and a second chance at being chic!

All of the leathers are hand picked in North Carolina so that they never have two identical hides. All the hardware for the products are made in America! Alisha comes from a long line of seamstresses. She has been a collector of vintage remnants forever and finds her materials from a variety of different sources all over. Courtney and Alisha work out of a tiny studio space in the house that they live in together. These girls are busy, they also both work together for another one of our vendors in the shop, FreakerUSA!

Bag Ladies and Woodsmen

Hey ladies and gents,

I’d like to introduce you to one of our lovely new vendors, and some beautiful new inventory from one of our friends whose work we’ve carried for a while.

Annilygreen is the love child of artisan Annie Green, whose leather bags and wallets have recently begun to grace our shelves with their leathery presence. Here are a few of Annie’s goods we’re currently carrying.

Cognac Leather Wallet

Gold Leather Wallet

Textured Charcoal Leather Tote Bag

I love the detail of the unique zipper colors on the wallets, and these bags are made of the softest leather.

Mike, the woodworker behind KES Carvings, has sent us a selection of hand-turned wooden bottle openers, wood slice tea light holders and pens…buthese pens aren’t just any pens, they are made using recycled .50 caliber bullet shells!

Each bottle opener we’re carrying is made from the wood of a different tree, including leopardwood, curly black ebony wood, and yellowheart.

Mike’s wooden tea light holders among Cassandra Smith‘s antlers and Ex Libris journals.

.50 cal bullet pens!

So yes, as always we have wonderful new things to look at (and buy!) in the shop. Stop by and say hello!

Lastly and lovingly, the inescapable “tablescapes” of Brooklyn Rehab. Alyssa Zygmunt, designer by day curiosity curator by night, takes our ideas of objects and “rehabilitates” them in a commercial and  whimsical way….tranforming our everyday concepts of a salt shaker, a coffee tin, or mug into interactive art.

New Goodies!

Hey all,

While there’s a lull during Crossbred Thread’s fabulous opening, let me tell you about some of the lovely ceramics Patti Sandberg just sent us all the way from Portland!

I asked Patti if she could send us some nautical-themed pottery, and boy did she deliver! Bear with me as the pottery itself is a little different, but we have new tumblers, mugs, and a couple bowls featuring either an an awesome anchor or whale design.

Whale tumbler (we also have whale mugs and a lovely bowl)

Anchor tumbler (same deal-we have mugs and a bowl with this design as well)

And menfolks! We have NEW WALLETS!

These wallets by Life the Real are handmade in Maine of recycled sailcloth:
