Get out!

Hi all,

If any of you are looking for stuff to do in the coming weeks, you should check out some of Atlanta’s cultural eye-candy.

TONIGHT at Emily Amy Gallery in Castleberry Hill, Meta Gary’s “Animal Instinct” opens at 7p.m. Here’s a preview image :) I love the unpainted wood’s effect.

Next up is Ponce Crush on April 2nd, featuring three shows: at Beep Beep, “Smokescreen” features new work by Allen Taylor and Andrea Sanders, Yana Dimitrova’s “halfawake” opens at Kibbee, and at Young Blood “Medicina” features work by David Hale (Athens, GA) and Kris Anderson (Athens, ATL, GA) and a live show by Rahasya!

Finally, streetela’s hosting an exhibition and launch on April 9 (8p.m.-?) that will include an onsite store, live bands and djs all night and work by 15 awesome artists!

Hope you all brave our little heat wave and see some cool art in the community!

“I believe this show represents a strong mix of work that is moving, irreverent, edgy and traditional.  This variety will enhance the inherent connection between the work, allowing viewers to compare and contrast approaches,” says Jim O’Donnell, curator.

The show will display an array of artist approaches addressing the themes of spirituality, self-image, relationships, emotions, and modern life. An exciting blend of works ranging from large-scale drawings to mythological sculptures to surrealist-like compositions can all be found at the show.

Artists:

Karen Cleveland, Ben Goldman, Kelly O’Brien, Sam Parker, Chloe Alexander, Tamara Argo, Amelia Netto, Kurt Raschke, Katie Reising, Marcy Starz , Rachel Lambert, Melissa Bigler, James O’Donnell, Angela Topetzes, and Blaine Watson.

We are happy to announce the birth of our new gallery collective,

Ponce Crush!

Ponce Crush is Young Blood, Beep Beep and Kibbee Gallery (all centered around Ponce de Leon Ave) joining together to have all of their openings on the same night!
We hope to encourage show attendance and support of the arts in Atlanta,” says Ann-Marie Manker of Kibbee Gallery.

We will now host the opening receptions for our monthly art shows on the same night of the month, which usually falls on the first Saturday.

“There’s a great deal of mutual respect between the galleries, and with our spaces being so close, creating this kind of event felt like a natural progression,” says James McConnell of Beep Beep Gallery.

The collective will kick off their openings on Saturday, January 8th, 2011, with a collective animal theme.

Young Blood:  Anima and Animus
Beep Beep:     Year of the Rabbit
Kibbee:          Picturing the Beast: Animal Imagery in Contemporary Prints

Thank you all for supporting YB
during this holiday season!
Stay tuned for details about our annual clearance sale coming up in two weeks!

Weekend Time!

Even MORE stuff happening this weekend..Aside from our opening of course!
First off! Coloring in the Lines at MINT gallery! Local artists such as Sam Parker, RLand, and the Paper Twins have filled in pages from a coloring book to be auctioned off in support of buying art supplies for inner city elementary schools. Good cause!

Second! Opening at Kibbee Gallery! Go see Sean Abrahams and Erin McCammant’s new work in the show titled “Glitter and Ghouls”! What?! That title rules.. and according to local badass Ann-Marie Manker, the show is already up and looks amazing! She said it’s going to fly off the wall.. be sure to get there soon! And speaking of.. here’s a nifty little walking map showing how close YBG is to them.

see ya around!

Shoutout!

Thanks Creative Loafing for the little shoutout and review of the Ponce Art Crew’s (yours truly, Beep Beep, and Kibbee!) openings this past weekend! We’re always a fan of sweet words.. hehe.. and it’s so awesome that we can share the vicinity of our digs with other amazing spaces and people!
If you haven’t read it yet.. Check it out here! Ming was such a multi-talented, awesome dude at the opening.. he is totally deserving of the praise he got!

But seriously, if you haven’t seen Born/Michi’s show at Beep Beep and Winsome Want at Kibbee.. Better hurry and get on it!!

AND on the topic of favorite spaces.. We hope to see everyone at Mint Gallery‘s Fundraiser. It’s super important to support your local business and keep Atlanta’s culture flowin..and Mint is non-profit, remember!

ps.. this is also a part of the Ponce Crew.. Sorry I didn’t mention that earlier :)

The art is hung and it kicks ASS!

Kenn, Steve, and Stenvik blew through the gallery like a contained tornado today, hung all their work and were outta here in a couple hours. These guys are seasoned pros and and it’s time for all their hard work to pay off! Come out this Saturday and give them a hearty slap on the back for a job well done.

We’ll get started at 7:00 and be here until at least 10:00. Buy them a drink (still rockin’ the dollar beers after all these years) then consider buying a piece of incredible and affordable art work by some of Atlanta’s most talented artists. Or sneak in on Thursday or Friday because I have a good feeling this work will sell fast – we just got a call from a customer in Connecticut! While you’re out, walk down to Kibbee Gallery where they’ll be showing the work of four artists in their show, “Sprout”.

See you this Saturday! Maggles
