I suspect the origin for todays thunderstorm is that someone purchased a Cloud Factory at Young Blood from Pearson Maron. Adam Maron and Quincy Pearson are full time artists that are self professed “kitsch peddlers”, oh, and they’re also totally in love.

They’re sweet ceramic pieces evoke childhood memories and wide goofy smiles. Especially this one.

I just hope someone also purchased the rainbow factory because I’d like my blue sky to come back now!

Momma Day’s Approaching!

So let me take a minute to brag on myself for being on the ball…I’ve already bought my and my fiance’s Mother’s Day gifts..from Young Blood of course!

I won’t give away what I bought for fear of discovery, but here are some fun and affordable ideas:

For the Chef:

Scone mix by Queen of Puddings. We have blueberry, original, chocolate chip, golden raisin, cranberry, and–what I want to try–ginger spice.

Flavored artisan salt from Beautiful Briny Sea (I have the lavender, mushroom, and rosemary flavors and love all of them!)

Wooden cutting board by Darbyn Woods

For the Hostess:

Tea towel from one of our BRAND NEW VENDORS, Sara Lee Parker!

Jams by Georgia Jams-we have lots of flavors and multiple sizes! Warning: the tabasco pepper jelly flavor is delicious, but H-O-T (tricked my sister into trying it by itself by telling her it was pear jam…)!

feather plates and catch-alls by Villarreal Ceramics

For the Jewelry-Hound:

Pearl and Oyster necklace by Erica Weiner (our best-seller!)

A sweet heart padlock bracelet, also from Erica Weiner.

Map necklace by The Weekend Store (pick a location where she’s always wanted to go…and then buy plane tickets if you’re really feeling brave!)

And we have TONS of art and prints for the aspiring art collector!

So knock your shopping out early before Mother’s Day next Sunday (the 8th)!

Milton and Margies Soy Wax Candles.

Neither Milton nor Margie actually make “Milton and Margies” soy wax candles. These one of a kind wonders are hand poured by Jessica Duff, who named her company after her two kitties.

“Milton and Margies” candles not only make perfect gifts, they are super eco-chic! Soy wax candles are special because they are made with soy beans which is a renewable source unlike paraffin and they burn with no soot, so your walls, ceilings and furniture will not turn color. Hurrah!
Each candle is an original, having been hand poured into a recycled container. Jessica uses mason jars, tin cans, vintage punch cups and anything else she can find in her kitchen, at thrift stores and garage sales. The only thing that is duplicated throughout the line is the the consistency of the label matching the fragrance the candle omits perfectly.
“Fuzzy navel” (peach) is a favorite in Young Blood of course; we’re southern after all, but “Wild Mountain Honey” and “Cedar Campfire” are amongst the other scents sent to put a smile on your face.

Check out the line of “MIlton and Margies soy wax candles” in store now.

Beautiful Decay

Hey all,

Good news-we finally got the newest Beautiful Decay book in store! I haven’t gotten a chance to look through it yet, but based on the website it looks like a good one!

One of the book’s chapter spreads (photo taken from the BD website).

An excerpt about BD’s 5th book:

“In Beautiful/Decay Book 5: Psychonauts we raise our anchor and set sail on an unknown voyage with seven featured artists whose work pushes the possibilities for consciousness within contemporary art. They each work in various mediums and conceptual frameworks but all share a common interest in the human condition. In addition to the features, we also invited 14 artists from around the world to create original work for our psychonaut project pages. The results are extremely unique and anything but predictable. Book 5 also includes a die-cut sticker created by artist, Gunsho.”

Also, in preparation for Daddys’ Day, come in and check out work by KES Carvings, one of our newest vendors! Mike, the craftsman behing KES, has sent us some gorgeous wood-turned pens, business card holders, pine and cedar coasters, and tea light holders! These wood-worked pieces would make great gifts for either an outdoorsy type or more of a suit-and-tie kind of guy.

Come check out the new goods, and maybe get a heads start on Father’s Day–or just treat yourself ;)

DIY Paper Puppets by Furze Chan in Hong Kong!

Fine Day Press was founded by designer Ashley Austin in the summer of 2009. Her childhood in the sleepy yet artsy town of Savannah, Georgia fostered a deep love of creative exploration, later channeled into a career in graphic design. After nearly a decade spent honing her craft in Manhattan, she struck out on her own to create her first signature line of stationery and gifts.
Ashley continues to practice as an independent design consultant for a number of clients; you can learn more about her graphic design work at helloashleyaustin.com.

Veve’s Handmade Soaps is run by Amanda, a single mom to a wild and sweet toddler girl, Genevieve. Veve for short, her handmade soap company is named after her. She taught herself to make soap as part of my growing desire to use less chemicals, have less of an ecological footprint and to spend less money on quality bath products. She loved it right away and really enjoyed creating my own recipes and learning the benefits of all the different natural ingredients that are good for the skin, and it grew into making most of our personal care products. A year later, and now she has her own line full of natural bath and beauty products that feed your skin!

Some new items you should check out:

Center Bakery’s GEORGIA JAMS AND JELLIES! Can you say yum? Lori works as a contract baker and pastry chef in Fayetteville, GA. Something she didn’t learn in culinary school is the art of preserves. She taught herself to make jam and jelly using the Ball Blue Book as her guide, as well as some advice from her Dad. She made her first jar in 2009, and with every batch she learns something new.  She picks all of the fruits locally, and she also grows all the peppers for her pepper jellies in her garden. All the fruits she uses for her jams and jellies are grown without pesticides.

Romina of Miles of Light, hailing from Dallas, Texas does nature inspired photography, prints, and freelance graphic design.

Vadim Malkin‘s ceramics! Since graduating with his BFA, Vadim has been working on his ceramics as a Resident Artist at Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park, Florida. His work has been on display in numerous galleries, shops and shows throughout Florida, including Tallahassee, St. Petersburg, Gainesville, and international exhibitions like the Chung-ju Craft Bienniel, Korea, and the ICMEA emerging artist, China.
